Information for prospective authors
Magnetic Resonance in Solids, Electronic Journal (MRSej) is a peer-reviewed, all electronic journal, publishing articles which meet the highest standards of scientific quality in the field of basic research of a magnetic resonance in solids and related phenomena. MRSej is free, for the authors (no page charges) as well as for the readers (no subscription fee). The language of MRSej is English. All exchanges of information will take place via Internet. Articles are submitted in electronic form (see Submission rules for details) and the refereeing process uses electronic mail. All accepted articles are immediately published by being made publicly available by www, ftp and e-mail. Subscribers automatically receive the Title and Abstract of every new Article published.
In "Submission rules" you find details about acceptable formats for the text and figures.
What happens after submission of a paper?
- The Executive Editor compiles the paper. If an error occurs, the paper is deleted and the author is forwarded a message mentioning the problem (optionally including the error message), and including a formal letter saying that the paper was rejected due to failure of the compile procedure, and asking the author to correct errors and to resubmit the paper. If compile procedure was successful, the author is forwarded a message containing a manuscript number and saying that the manuscript was received and that it is going to be refereed.
- MRSej Executive Editor forwards the paper to referees, and within two weeks reports his decision to the editorial board. If the paper is rejected, the Executive Editor forwards the author e-mail letter saying that the paper is rejected. If the paper is accepted, the secretary forwards the paper and referee's report(s) and opinions of other members of the board (if any exist) to the Editors-in-Chief, who make the final decision within one weeks. The paper is accepted for publication in case one Editor-in-Chief accepts the paper.
- In case the author decides to withdraw the paper, he/she forwards this decision to the editorial board, using "SUBJECT: MRSej manuscript number: withdrawn" (MRSej@kpfu.ru or Editor.MRSej@gmail.com ).
- Accepted version of a paper is the form that will be in the Journal; the author will not be able to make any changes, except: errata and additions can be attached to the end and, where appropriate, be added to the main text calling attention to these addendums. The only way for the author to "revise" the paper is to withdraw it (as indicated in 3) and to submit the revised version as a new manuscript.
- The paper is given its final number (a new volume is started if the current volume is decided to be full). MRSej proceeds to put the volume and article numbers in headers. The resulting file is forwarded to the author for proofing.
- Authors retain ownership of copyright to their work, subject to appropriate use of the work by the journal (see "Submission rules"). Then
- If the author agrees with final form of the paper, he(she) informs the Executive Editor by E-mail. The accepted article will be added to the designated volume immediately after receiving of the author E-mail message confirming the final form of the article.
- If the author does not agree that MRSej publishes the current paper under the indicated conditions, the paper is considered withdrawn.
- MRSej adds two cover pages with MRSej Logo and information about article and journal and publishes the paper at MRSej site.
Submission rules
Authors are invited to submit articles to the Editorial Board in the standard LaTeX format (use current version LaTeX2e with Computer Modern fonts and (optionally) AMS fonts) with graphics in encapsulated PostScript format (EPS files) or the preferred pdfLaTeX format with graphics in Portable Document Format (PDF files) or portable network graphics (png files) (see How to prepare a manuscript). Submissions to MRSej may consist of a single TeX file or a combination of one or more TeX files, graphics files, auxiliary LaTeX files, etc. All submissions must utilize an MRSej template to specify bibliographic and other information.
LaTeX (LaTeX2e) IS THE PREFERRED FORMAT, and its use will facilitate consideration of an article, but papers in other standard TeX flavors will be considered (see How to prepare a manuscript). Since June 2019, the MRSej has completely switched to LaTeX (pdflatex) to prepare articles for publication. Manuscripts in the Microsoft Word formats (Win MSWord) are accepted only as an exception after the personal permission of the Journal Editor. Authors who intend to submit a manuscript in a different format should consult the Executive Editor (MRSej@kpfu.ru ) before submission.
Articles may be submitted in the following way:
- send the files by e-mail to the Exucutive Editor (MRSej@kpfu.ru or Editor.MRSej@gmail.com ) following the instructions in the MRSej e-mail template. Long files are recommended to compress by any standard procedure ( zip, gzip, rar, etc).
Submissions to MRSej which do not process through LaTeX compilation without errors will be returned to the author along with a error log file. The author is expected to rectify the errors and re-submit the research announcement.
Publication will be immediate following acceptance of the article.
When your paper is published, we will send out a short version of title page of your article (without Logo) to our subscribers. Your abstract, reproduced verbatim, will be the main content of that notice, so please take care in making the abstract informative, complete, clear, and as self-contained as possible, in order to interest subscribers in reading your paper.
How to prepare a manuscript
Authors are invited to submit articles to the Editorial Board in standard LaTeX format (LaTeX 2e) or in pdfLaTeX (preferrably!). Submissions to MRSej may consist of a single LaTeX file or a combination of several LaTeX files, like graphics files, bib files, auxiliary LaTeX files, etc. All submissions must utilize an MRSej template to specify bibliographic and other information (See submission rules).
Since June 2019, the MRSej has completely switched to LaTeX (pdflatex) to prepare articles for publication. Manuscripts in other formats are accepted only as an exception after the personal permission of the Journal Editor.
Each LaTeX manuscript (including title, author(s), address(es), abstract, PACS, keywords, equations, tables, figures and references) and all additional files (including figures, bibtex file, etc) are prepared by the author(s) and submitted to the Editorial Board via Internet. Separate graphic files must be of appropriate typographic quality in any format supported by pdflatex, for example, either PDF, or EPS, or PNG, etc, see below for specific details). The authors should complete a Submission Template: title; author(s) name, address and Email address; abstract (not more than 200 words); PACS numbers; keywords (optional); support (optional), etc. The completed Submission Template with attachment containing the manuscript files must be sent to the Editorial Office by e-mail MRSej@kpfu.ru .
If the paper is accepted for publications in the MRSej, two cover pages of each article is added in final form by the MRSej Editorial Office The Editorial Office will add the MRSej volume and article numbers, dates received, revised and accepted, and the MRSej LogoType. The body of the article including the title; author(s) name, address and E-mail address; abstract (not more than 200 words); PACS numbers; keywords (optional); support (optional); main text with equations, tables, figures and references starts at the top of the third page. The paper will be sent to all subscribers by e-mail immediately after publication of the article.
LaTeX2e (and pdfLaTeX!) IS THE PREFERRED FORMAT, and its use will facilitate consideration of an article. Only standard TeX fonts should be used, namely Computer Modern, AMSFonts (optionally), and LaTeX symbol fonts. PostScript graphics in EPS (Encapsulated PostScript) or PDF or PNG) format may be included for standard LaTeX, or graphics in Portable Document Format (PDF) or portable network graphics (PNG) may be attached for pdfLaTeX using. The graphics should be sent as separate files. The macro package graphicx may be used for inclusion of EPS (PDF, PNG) graphics, but Psfig or EPSF are also allowable. Authors who intend to submit a manuscript in a different format should consult the Executive Editor ( MRSej@kpfu.ru ) before submission.
A style file (mrsej.cls) is available from the journal and its use during preparation of articles is strictly encouraged. The some things keep in mind.
- Authors must use the MRSej article class of LaTeX for preparing manuscripts (mrsej.cls).
- Graphics (in appropriate quality, 300 dpi and better) should be included into manuscript. The graphic files in PDF, PNG, JPEG (JPG), or EPS format must be sent as separate files.
- There is the template file in the pdf format with Editor's remarks (template_mrs_Edited.pdf).
- There are two versions of the LaTeX template.
- First of them is a variant using bibTeX to work with references. The complete set of this LaTeX template files can be downloaded with the zip archive file (mrsej_LaTeX_bibtex.zip)
- Another LaTeX example (mrsej_LaTeX_bibliogr.zip) represents the pdfLaTeX version of manuscript with the reference list made with simple thebibliography environement (without bibtex package).
- Authors should note that the base font size is 11 point. Please avoid use of elements which depend on another base font size.
- All formulas, expressions, signs and symbols should be in math mode. For example, $T_1 = 210$\,mK. Use the math-roman-plain style (\mathrm{...}) in indices for abbreviations indices: For example, $T_{\mathrm{F}}$ is Fermi temperature, $\omega_{\mathrm{an}}$ is an anisotropy frequency, but $\omega_n$, if $n$ is the variable index!
- Also avoid any absolute moves such as `\vskip 10 pt' as the journal's pagination may differ from yours. As a general rule less formatting is better.
- Articles must include an Abstract in English of not more than 200 words.
- The references should be grouped at the end of the paper. We encourage citations with full list of authors (see example in the pdf format with Editor's remarks). Note for authors working in the simple thebibliography environement (without bibtex package): You should use the following format for references
\bibitem{Weber2011} Weber~A., Pressacco~F., Guenther~S., Mancini~E., Oppeneer~P.M., Back~C.H. \textit{Phys. Rev.~B} {\bf 84}, 132412 (2011)
after compilation this looks as
14. Weber A., Pressacco F., Guenther S., Mancini E., Oppeneer P.M., Back C.H. Phys. Rev. B 84, 132412 (2011)
For simplicity, you can use our BibTeX style file which is also included in corresponding LaTeX example (mrsej_LaTeX_bibtex.zip). - All macros must be included with the source file and they are on the responsibility of the author(s) (see Submission rules).
- Another unique feature of the electronic medium is that figures and diagrams can use color, sounds and animation, when that is appropriate, at no extra (monetary) cost. Articles may have Separated Appendixes in computer readable format, for instance color versions of the figures, extensive tabular material, raw experimental results, computer programs, computer files with animation and sounds. It may be more time consuming for readers to download and view Separated Appendixes, thereby allowing readers to download one or the other, as they wish.
